At 15, inspired one day by a guitar riff in a Bob Marley song, Julien decided to teach himself how to play the guitar. After a few years, Julien took to the stage at his high school talent show and amazed the audience with his cover of James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain”. Much to his surprise, the young audience was both moved and appreciative of Julien’s performance as he won the competition.

After high-school, with no intentions of pursuing music, he moved to Norway to study outdoor guiding at university and to be near his crush, a Norwegian girl who would visit the US each summer. After half a year of being homesick, he moved back to the US. Feeling lost and defeated he needed new direction. Inspired by his love, truly a ‘girl-next-door who moved away but kept in touch’ story, Julien picked his guitar back up and started writing songs.
